What's this? Liam not only using something other than pencil but actually coloring this time?!

In my art class (which is sadly coming to a close in less than two weeks) we've been drawing with oil pastels. It was a little hard to get used to at first, but I'm slowly getting the feel for how it works.

This is a little something I whipped up at home. I've always (well, for a long time anyway) had this weird fascination with combining muted grey and neon yellow. I think they compliment each other rather nicely in a jarring, juxtaposed sort of way. Like, you know when it's raining hard and the only colors that really stand out are bright neon colors? That's what I'm trying to go for. I love how it looks. It's the color combination that most reminds me of a rainy day. And I like my rain.

I'm probably going to do more abstract grey-yellow pieces like this. The only problem is that the grey crayon is the one crayon that's the hardest to get looking... right. You can clearly see every single smudge I made, and the spots where the oil started building up. Maybe it's just the brand or something. This pastel kit only cost like five bucks, but the other crayons seemed to get the job done just fine.

So much smudging. I'm going to wait until the skin grows back on my fingertips to start my next piece.
