This guy right here is based on a canceled remake of King Kong vs Godzilla in 1991. Little of what we know about the plot involved Kong falling in love with a human scientist and her converting him into a cyborg. That idea got retooled into Godzilla vs King Ghidorah. Main idea was taking Kong and implementing elements of classic Toho kaiju. Main inspirations being Mechani-Kong and Kiryu. Maser Cannon is meant to somewhat resemble a wrestling belt, as a nod to the OG KKvsG's satire of wrestling.

Since we have a Mecha-Godzilla, I guess it was only a matter of time before we got a Mecha-King Kong, too.
