Southern hunter

Share

a hunter living in the rural parts of a southern kingdom province. his armor mostly consists of scales since the hunting ground in that particular province is mostly dominated with large reptiles.

hunters are usually considered valuable in a village since it would require courage, vast knowledge of the dangerous wildlife in that area, as well as tracking skills to become one. hunters have their own preference for their armors and methods of hunting. Some prefer to wear thick camouflages to get close enough to a prey like many grassland hunters. others rely on their knowledge to lure their prey especially hunters in swampy areas while some even like to intentionally anger a predator and rely on their melee skills and strong armor to overcome the raging beast.

aside from being a champion in the village. most hunters would usually get recruited to help southern kingdom military engage in massive noble hunts since their knowledge and tracking skills is something that the soldiers in the old city ruins don't have.

a hunter could boost their reputation among the provinces if they were ever recruited on a noble hunt. though some hunter could achieve greater popularity through other means, usually doing something really dangerously stupid either intentional or not such as taking out beasts that is usually avoided even by experienced hunters. or maybe something noble like hunting a predator that has terrorized and killed people in their village.

these legendary hunters would often be the first picks of any military squad that plans to engage in a noble hunt.

the hunter in this image, like many others in his province have created unbreakable bonds with many of the tamable wildlife in the area. some have birds of prey on their side, others use beasts of burdens such as the bear ferret to carry their heavy arsenals.

alongside this particular hunter is his trusty snake-dog. One of the several breeds of dog that survived the apocalypse and adapted to their new surroundings. aside from having a slender body and long tail, the snake dog's name is mainly derived from it's ability to mimic the movements of the notoriously venomous jewel cobra that also lives in the same high grasslands as the wild snake-dogs.

the snake dog does this behavior in order to scare away larger mammalian or reptilian predators that often rely on their sight to hunt and would often be scared of a jewel cobra in a threatening pose.

aside from their mimicry, the snake dogs also have incredible hearing to avoid the giant invertebrate predators that lurk inside mud of the grasslands. because those giant, eyeless spider-crab-mud-thing just simply don't give damn.

though dogs have certainly changed drastically in their characteristics after the great quake due to the dangerous environments and creatures it shares its home with,
their strong bond with humans and willingness to protect their master to the death has certainly remained.

This is beautiful. I love how much thought you've put into the world building here.

Everything has this textured look that makes me want to reach out and touch it.

The design of the snake-dog is freaking awesome. It's so different from anything that exists in our world, with just enough similarities to feel plausible.

I absolutely love concept work like this. It's something I'd like to do when I have more experience. Amazing job.

Thank you ^_^

I haven't actually experiences what actual concept artists do in their work
But if i could give one advice that i often hear from concept artists is that the design and idea always comes first, art comes second since it's merely a tool to visualize the idea in your head
