Hey! To start this decade right, we believe Newgrounds should be ad-free for EVERYONE. For this to work, we need people who have the means to become paying supporters. For just $3 per month or $25 for the year, you can help this happen and get some nice perks!

For the month of February we have disabled ads on all E-M content. We need 194 people to reach our goal of 3,100 active supporters. If we hit that, we'll continue with a new goal in March!

My Oasis - The Greenhouse of Vulpes Valley

Share

After about 50 hours of planning, construction and finally painting this Illustration I really don´t know how to feel. I could literally cry of happiness. On one hand this was such an amazing experience and I really pushed myself and I´m really proud of the result.

I used watercolor and some sort white that´s usually used for traditional manga, but hey, there are no rules in art supplies! It´s painted on four pieces of watercolor paper, that I later combined digitally. I´ve never done architecture before, so this challenge definetely got me out of my comfort Zone. It was so much fun to do though, because I painted everywhere, during class, in my lunchbreaks, at home and at Starbucks Xd

The first pic on my Instagram is proving that I´ve drawn it myself ;D
I´ve documentated the process in my story, if you on your phone you can see it :)

It´s my first time taking part in the challenge of the month by Draw with Jazza. I really love this month´s theme, and as I heard it I immediately started sketching. At first I wanted to do a castle or a spaceship with a lot of fighting and Action going on, but then reconsidered my ideas and thought that a quiet peaceful place, somewhere were I could be alone was what I really wanted.

And so I created Vulpes Valley, a place hidden between mountains and waterfalls, named after ancient fox (Latin vulpes) spirits that are hidden in the environment. The only building is the greenhouse, where I grow exotic and rare plants to sell them at a market. With the sunlight and clear, fresh water ist the perfect place for my gardening dreams to come true ;)

The human character is nothing special, no superpowers or crazy weapons, it´s pretty much (a cuter version of) me ;) But of course, I needed to add my character Jules the Platypaca, because he somehow makes it into every Illustration I make, lately.
I kinda reimagined his design because I don´t think a platypus would fit the the mountain area, so he looks more like an eagle...But ist still my baby Jules.
;D

Anyways I know that still need to improve A LOT, but what I personally like about this piece is that it feels right to me, just like I have imagined it. It´s the feeling of weightlessness and piece mixed with a little bit of sunlight and laughter.

I´d be so thankful for constructive criticismn, so feel free to share your opinion with me ;D

Kauri ;)

Note: Wow. You´ve read it to the end. Damn. I´m really sorry for this long, long monologue, of bad english and confused thoughts, that probably sounds like a nine-year-old had written it. It´s just...when you´ve worked for so long and then you finish it...you just don´t feel like leaving it with one short sentence. I hope you´ll understand that XD
