A SELECTED PASSAGE FROM WAHRZEIT

The royal light from the center of Wahrzeit beams through the city as I finish my sentence. The King is making his first announcement this month. The sound pipes rumble as his voice speaks aloud.

“Attention citizens of Wahrzeit! We have stumbled upon a grand issue! I have terribly bad news to share with everyone, for safety reasons. I will be delaying all further expeditions of the protector service five months forward! An unknown obstruction that seems to be some sort of space originated structure has been charted in the Eastern part of the surface! This was not predicted by any of our inspectors, so we have good reason to wait this problem out! A dark matter storm should be going on for a few months up on the surface and we’ve already lost one of our fledgling protectors; Welrock—”

My heartbeat doubles and sweat begins to flood through my pores. The entire city seems to erupt into screams, but I can’t tell which are real.
“No. No. No, please.” The rest of the announcement was lost in my mind…
