Neon And Coral ~ The Eternal Sisters (Tradigital Art Challenge)

Painting process with explanation video :

Neon(cyber goth girl) and Coral (dressed in gown) are sisters that represent digital art
and traditional art worlds respectively. Neon creates art digitally while Coral paints traditionally.
These sisters are connected through an eternal cycle where they paint each other. But Neon paint Coral with her digital art pen and Coral use paint brush for Neon.
So Neon is made of traditional art and Coral is made of digital. Then who actually represents which side? It's for you to decide.
Message: Art is so intertwined that sometimes they cross the thin line of medium. In a world of creation it's all connected.

Looks and painting technique:

Neon: Neon represents digital , more high-tech world. To dramatise the situation (very common in art) I went for a very modern Cyber Gothic look. The grid lines below her waist and on her left hand show, she is still being made.
Though she represents the digital art world she is being made by a traditional artist, hence I used mainly 'watercolor build up' brush (basic ps bursh) to color. I mix the colors with 'watercolor wash' paint brush and 'watercolor build up' smudge brush. Detailing kept as much as a water color painting needs but not like digital art detailing. So Neon has a bit watery washed painted look. I used 'Hard pastel' brush for her hair decoration. I did not use any layer blending mode as I wanted to stay true to the medium as much as possible.

Coral: Coral represents traditional world. So I went with an elegant gown. The paint blobs that coming into shape for her shows , she is being drawn as well.
Since Coral is digitally made, I went for a smoother look. Used basic soft brush to color her skin and dress and blend them in usual digital painting method of brushing low opacity brush in-between.
Usage of texture is very common in digital art. So I used texture and design on her outfit. Also used frizzy brush for her hair. I tried to give as much detailing and smoothness as possible. Also used 'Skin pores' brushes to give her more detailed skin.
Since she represents traditional world I made her look a bit like traditional painting in stead of generic digital art look.

Age difference: I tried to show Neon as a younger person while Coral bit older by their facial structure as digital medium is relatively younger in age than traditional medium of art.

Background: I kept background more abstract to keep the focus on the front figures. But the color combination was of importance to me while painting. The cool colors gradually mixes with warm colors and vise versa seamlessly showing a gentle transition of each genre/side to other.

Focus on Painting hand : I wanted to give maximum focus on the painting hands for both as well as their tool, so I intentionally hid the other hand or showed them in 'being made' phase. In this painting The hands are main point of the theme, so to emphasise their importance I covered the other in meaningful way.
