I did this piece when I was at design school. The project was to represent "Direction" through an illustration. I thought a "seeing eye dog" would be a cool idea. I did some thumbnails, blew them up on the computer, printed the blown up version, inked the dog and the blind guy. The rest was rendered completely in Adobe Illustrator. The texture pattern in the very background was actually ink that I created using a tooth brush and a comb.
You rub the tooth brush in india ink and then roll the comb over the brush spraying the ink onto paper. Let it dry for a night and scan it for your texture needs.
This was one of my first in a series of monochromatic design/illustrations I did while at school. I won a digital illustration award for this at the yearly portfolio review.
