My entry for CHOW 32

The NzáÃ-r citystate was governed by two rulers; the Dhzuah (meaning as much as "Houselord") and the Che`nlú ("Vessel"). The Dhzuah typically governed all worldly and day to day matters, whereas the Che`nlú was in Charge of the spiritual and cultural matters.
Ancestor worship lies at the very core of the Nzair civilization, mostly because of their presence in the Domain of the living. The Spirits of the live on, usually in slumber, in the tarpit that is their grave. Whenever the old Che`nlú dies, a successor is elected. This successor is sent onto the tarlake on a raft, to emerge 5 days later as the new Che`nlú. In these five days, the original spirit of the Che`nlú leaves the body and the spirit of an ancestor occupies it. The skin of the Che`nlú is a deep black, unlike the complexion of other Nzáir, that approximates ours. Besides this, the Che`nlú has glowing glyphs, signifying the possessing ancestor.
