New comic Monday! So just the other day we learned that Microsoft closed down Lionhead Studios. Apparently all of the employees found out the same day the general public did… Not a very good way of handling things. We wish all of those guys and gals the best.
This has left us with sort of mixed emotions though. The first fable was probably the very first game we felt true and genuine hype for. We gulped down any little tidbit of info we could get on that game for years. Joining the big blue box forums. Drooling over every screen shot and promise we were spoon fed. We all know how that turned out… Although it was a decent game on it’s own, it was nothing compared to the game we were promised. But, we managed to pull ourselves together and chalk it up to lesson learned… But not quite.
When Fable 2 was announced, we gladly bought our tickets on the hype train once again. Falling for every promise that was thrown out. Hell, we even preordered the collectors edition. You know, the one with the Hobbe figures we never received! We did however get an exclusive behind the scenes look at the making of the game. Every scene filled with our Hobbe figures dancing in the background… Lesson learned for a second time…
Then we saddled up for Fable 3! Surely they had learned their lesson by now… Nope… We were the one’s failing to learn.
We’ve managed to stay away from all of the hype for anything after that. When I heard that the snake oil salesman Peter Molyneux had left, I started gaining a bit more hope for the studio. But Microsoft it seems, are not so forgiving. Going so far as to blow up the hype train before it ever had a chance to land at the station.
We do wish all of them the best. And it is kinda sad we will never have another Fable game to get our hopes up over. Falsely or otherwise…

Acorn??? What, wait...something a miss here?

InsanityinaBox responds:

In the very first Fable, one of the many promises that was never delivered upon was that you would be able to plant an acorn and watch the tree grow over the progression of your game.

Wait, acorn?
Is there some inside joke I'm missing?
