RTO: Vorton

In the Realm of In-Between, Sora finds a seemingly abandoned world at the very center of the Multiverse, one rife with technology that's alien to him, even by his own bad-with-tech standards. It turns out this is the Planet Vorton, and it's guarded by an AI known as Vorton Data Archivist, or VDA, who welcomes Sora to her abode and invites him to face simulated battles so she can study his Keyblade and how he uses it.

"I was designed to research and catalogue data and information on this vast Multiverse. Perhaps this knowledge could be of use to any stray travelers in the future."

 -VDA

Sora explores the ruins of Vorton and fights his way through numerous Data Battles, facing recreations of old foes and even new ones, visiting Vorton again and again as he progresses through his adventures. After completing half the battles, Sora meets a strange person who sometimes visits VDA, an Angel named Kalei, who Sora recognizes from a (brief) run-in on a previous adventure. After challenging Sora to a fight, she notices his unease about being a puppet and tells him he's broken fate's hold before, he shouldn't worry about being stuck in a role he doesn't want.

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"I could tell you, but I don't wanna."

 -Sora and Kalei

After completing all the battles, Sora finds that VDA has crafted a body for herself, and she thanks Sora with a Keyblade chain she designed while analyzing his fights. She reveals that he isn't the first Keyblade Wielder she had tested, as a decade prior, a trio of them had stumbled upon her home, Ventus, Aqua, and Terra. These names ring a bell to Sora, and he's happy to hear they were quite close last VDA saw them, hoping they could be close again, wherever they may be now. VDA thanks Sora for his contributions to her endless research, bidding him good luck on his quest.

"They fought alongside each other valiantly, always came to each other's defense, I'd be honored to meet them again someday."

 -VDA

Easter Eggs

  • Given this is the hubworld from Lego Dimensions, Sora can naturally find a few references here and there. The drones that help VDA attend to Vorton are a dead ringer for X-PO, the guide in that game, there's an aged statue of Lord Vortech, and a secret area has the gateway from that game. Said area is full of treasure, but also has Batman's Batarang, Gandalf's hat, and Wyldstyle's Relic Detector tucked away at the side.
  • Sora can find a small lab area with a screen showing the schematics of VDA's body, long before she finishes building it and reveals it to him. Evidently, she's a perfectionist.
  • In the distance on the Light Realm side, Sora can see this, which is meant to be the home of the Ice Climbers. In earlier Multiverse drafts, the Ice Climbers worked for VDA.
  • The view of the Realm of Light also offers a look at a green planet with a Green Lantern symbol on its surface in the distance. That's Mogo, a living planet that's also a Green Lantern.
  • Sora can find a chamber holding quite a few artifacts VDA had collected. These include a Flux Capacitor (Back To the Future), Mace Windu's Lightsaber (Star Wars), a wrecked Guardian (Legend of Zelda), a Crystal (Crash Bandicoot), Prime Minister Honest's crown (Akame ga Kill), a Franklin Bade (Earthbound), the Double Gear System (Mega Man), the Inanimate Carbon Rod (The Simpsons), a 1-Up Mushroom (Super Mario Bros.), an Endoskeleton (Five Nights At Freddy's), a piece of standard Saiyan armor (Dragon Ball), some Dust (RWBY), an Energon Cube (Transformers), and a Wreck-It Ralph arcade cabinent.
  • The view of the Realm of Darkness on the other side offers some elements as well. Sora can see a cosmic storm brewing from far away, complete with strange lightning. When said lightning flashes, Sora can see an enormous shadow of a helmeted figure. It's Galactus, as Marvel's world is in the Realm of Darkness (Contrasting with DC being in the Realm of Light).
  • Sora can occasionally see the Space Core from Portal giddily floating around in the distance.
  • Sora can also see some elements from worlds he previously visited in the distance on the Light side, such as the Comet Observatory (Super Mario), a Jambastion Base (Kirby), and the Spaceship Tetra (Puyo Puyo).
  • There's a balacony among the ruins that gives Sora a view of the Dark side. Staring at it long enough will cause a creepy face to form among the stars and galaxies.
  • A secret area features a strange little lounge where you can see a poker game playing out between Wheatley (Portal), Handles (Doctor Who), a Blue Spy's Head (Team Fortress 2), and R4-P17 (Star Wars). Evidently, VDA let them crash here, but how any of them can play when R4 is the only one with anything resembling hands is anyone's guess.
  • There's a crack in a wall among the ruins. If Sora looks through it, he can see a dark, humanoid figure on the other side, out of reach. He never acknowledges this.
  • If Sora talks to one of the drones, they'll try to give him some advice that's actually a line from Half-Life's G-Man.

Drone: The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world.

  • Another chamber Sora can find has a model of this, Vorton Tower, from my earlier Multiverse drafts.
  • The room also has a model of the Normandy from Mass Effect. Originally, VDA was going to be EDI from that game before I made her her own character.
  • Another chamber has holographic banners of Samus Aran, Captain Falcon, and Solid Snake, all character that were originally going to be working for EDI/VDA.
  • That chamber has a balcony that Sora can stand on. Staying on it will cause the Hocatate ship from Pikmin to fly by. Comically, it's not far away like the others, it's quite close. It's just tiny.
  • Samus' ship can sometimes be seen flying around the Light side. Similarly, the Doctor's TARDIS can be seen flying around the Dark side. Originally, the Doctor was going to be the one to commission Vorton Tower's construction.
  • Another secret area has some creatures in tanks. These creatures are Starro stuck to the glass (DC Comics), a sleeping Leroy Clone (Lilo and Stitch), a Starman (Earthbound), a Cactaur (Final Fantasy), and a Shroob (Super Mario Bros.). There's a sixth tank in the room, but it's broken open with nothing inside.
  • There's a bridge area Sora can stand at, and see an Orcus Galactus (A space whale from Treasure Planet) swim by in the distance.
  • Revisiting upon finishing this world will show that VDA set up holographic statues of Aqua, Terra, Ventus, and now Sora.
