The guilt is overwhelming. Not just for what you did, but for the reckless flailing against the consequences. Your rude words. Your unjust thoughts. Your daring to question her. Moments ago, your mouth was agape in protest and indignation, but now it's closed, accepting. You can't put yourself in your own shoes. Why were you struggling, when at your deepest core, you can feel the truth.

You deserve this.

You feel your fingers hardening, your feet growing heavy. Her strong hands adjust you into an elegant pose, and you don't resist. How could you? After everything you did. You feel reprehensible.

But then, you're doing the right thing. You're serving your time, so to speak. You're accepting the results of your actions. You're reaping what you sowed. You should have thought before you addressed her. You should have bowed before her.

And now you are to be but a statue.

Your arms and legs are cool, numb. Polished steel against the chequered marble floor. You remember your manners and thank her.

As you are petrified, your last thought as a human being is that justice has been served.

And there's relief in that.
