It’s that time, folks. You know what it is.

This is a pretty special piece for me. My love for Halloween and the season surrounding it is vast, as you may know. I love the mood, the aesthetic, the vibe of Halloween. This is also a piece where I did my best to push myself artistically, and I applied some of the techniques I’ve been learning in classes here at college to it. Learning how to draw things in different perspectives has really helped with this one, as it’s a much more radical angle than I usually draw. It was also a pain to draw the characters in this angle, lol.

I have a habit of drawing art that serves as album covers for music I like, sometimes for one song in particular. This piece is a tribute to a song, but not in the way you might expect.

It’s a tribute to this video in particular.

I feel a need to clarify a few things. I can’t stand Marilyn Manson, and his cover of “This is Halloween” is his only song that I both like and don’t hate. As in, I hate all his other work, and this is the only song of his that I don’t hate. I also read all of the Soul Eater manga and yet never really got into it. I read the entire series without ever thinking much more than ‘huh, neat.’ I think I appreciated it more than I enjoyed it, as there are very few pieces of media that are entirely Halloween-themed. There are Halloween specials and episodes and such, but it’s rare to find media that is fully committed.

I made an oath years ago, atop a mountain, that I would watch this video every year in the month of October. To this day I have upheld that unholy pact.
