A pre-existing and pre-era Pokemon, Darkrai was born out of the fear of the living of things that were inevitable. Born in the mist of dreams, feeding off the hopelessness of its prey's mind, it uses their psych as its playground. From each victim it takes its existence and makes it its own creating a physical entity.
Over the years, feeding and destroying the inner mind of Pokemon was its primary objective. Lost and with no other reason for living, the humans arrived with a method to counter the ability of this Pokemon, leaving Darkrai with even less of a goal. This caused fear - a new feeing for Darkrai, and it retracted from the world. Only slowly over time did it eventually reveal itself to the humans once again, creating a bearable alliance. Even though to survive it must feast on dreams, it also strives to protect the hosts of its meals.
