Just before Bruce dons the batsuit for the first time he reads the breakup letter from Andrea Beaumont, the only woman Bruce ever loved and the one who Bruce thought could bring him happiness. His decision is made. No distractions, only vengeance, only Batman. In my AU some of the events of the DCAU take place, this includes Mask of The Phantasm, so I felt this was the best way to depict heartbreak for Bruce (since in my AU Bruce and Selina do get married).
