some old WIPs of the battle screen from my now-defunct game project POST*BUSTERS. the battle system was to resemble Paper Mario and Superstar Saga mechanically, where the two main characters would be able to combine their different abilities to give the player a wide variety of options in any given battle. i had a pretty complex elemental system planned where different enemies would react differently to most attacks– a paper enemy would become heavy and soggy if a water-based attack was used, or one of those Noble Clouds could be sent into a thunderous frenzy after being hit by a static electricity-based move.
a Lore Codex would automatically gather data on enemies the player had encountered before, to provide more options and clues for future battles. in addition to attacking options, every enemy in the game could be conversed with before & during battles with a variety of possible outcomes, similar to Shin Megami Tensei. higher Lore Analysis would give more conversational options as you learned more about a foe, unlocking ways of acquiring rare items, getting healed by an enemy you impressed, etc.
the project as shown here isn't actively developed anymore, but i intend to still do something with a version of these characters and this setting. i hope you enjoy!
