Bird taking a breather

Share

I built a new easel using the design developed by artist James Gurney (Dinotopia) for plein air painting. Anyway, it's raining today, so I brought up a photo on my computer monitor and set up my easel to look at it while I painted. This is 9" x 9" on watercolor paper. I used gouache for the first time and I think I'm going to like it.

Nice water

Yes yes look at his little man, very distinguished...

beautiful. Esp. love the water.

What a fantastic painting. The warm sun rays reflecting off of the leaf and tawny feathers are particularly stunning. I've never used gouache either, and this is inspiring me to give it a go one day. Great work.

You should try it! I was very pleased with the handling. I dries fast, faster than acrylics, but it's initial block-in is like watercolors. I'm taking this outdoors the first chance I get.

The water looks amazing! Great work!
