My entry to Draw with Jazza's Art Competition "Isolation"

This represents how I've been feeling for a long time in the last weeks, school finals coming up, nobody responds to your text messages except if you give them tips on math problems. Being alone is a weird feeling and it's a type of sadness that can get weirdly addicting if you're not careful. Which I wasn't

I am 18, kinda bad at lighting and rendering, but I like this piece and even if I don't win, I'm happy I made this one.

Thanks for getting me into art a few years ago, Jazza :)

Upon closer inspection it struck that the person here is not "furiously creating in quiet solitude of the night", but sitting idly in front of a blank canvas... which reminded me of a quote I heard not long ago, that "art does not exist in a vacuum". Solitude might be good for being productive when executing your idea, but creating ideas is another story.

The detail is fantastic and the lighting and use of shadows I think is done well. Many of us can relate to isolation like this for various reasons and perspectives.

Btw love the led strip of lights for extra light.

Several different aspects in this drawing looked so realistic at first glance. The window wall really grabbed my attention though I know its not the main focal point.

Art work that can bring conversation is great art work...there is so much here I can talk about and so many memories and thoughts it evokes about isolation and so many other feelings.

This is a good piece.

DonoMaxa responds:

It took hours to get the window and I almost forgot about the keys but in the end, yeah, I'm so happy I didn't xD
I've been getting positive reviews on this and it's making me really really happy, I'm so glad you like it, it means a lot. And yes, the LED strip and the PS4 LED and the computer charger and stuff, I love littl dabbles of light in artworks, I think it helps the atmosphere a lot.

And as for people being able to relate to this, there is no greater honour than to hear that I have evoked emotion with my artwork, it's all I really want. Thank you

for someone claiming to be bad at lighting you actually did very well, you use light very subtle --> the keys, the window. Very well done! And it's always a good thing to make a piece you enjoy. Looking forward to your progress and certainly will follow you on here to watch you grow.

DonoMaxa responds:

Aww, you're too kind. I tried reeeeeeaally hard with the lighting in this piece, it's certainly my best attempt at some form of shading to date and I am so glad to hear that you like it :)))) <3<3<3

Line work could be better, but great job nonetheless. Also, this is coming from a guy who has REALLY messy work.

DonoMaxa responds:

Well, truth be told I couuuuuld say that the linework was intentionally sketchy, buuuuuut, that's not all true, I kinda suck at linework too and have to work on that, you're right thanks

I love the feel of this one. u can feel isolation. camera angle is awesome. good one.

DonoMaxa responds:

Thank you, samaritan of the web, i feed on encouragement and it seems I mustn't go home hungry today ;)
