I know I was listening to the acoustic version of "Metal Dance" by The Megas when I drew this, and when I colored it.
Because of this, I couldn't help but do a helmetless, fedora-wearing Metal Man with a trenchcoat over his armor. I promise you the image looked much more bloody awesome in my head than it does on paper. Why did I keep the mask and those crazy-looking ears? The mask just seemed fitting in this case (and I believe at the time I didn't really feel like drawing his face), and I just can't see any version of Metalman without those ears.
