Romans 8:20-21

"For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God."

When everything collapses around you, and when your mountain tops leave you wanting, it's a reminder that we are eternal beings, seeking fulfillment from the temporary.

"But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible,
for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says, “Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” Ephesians 5:13-14

Perhaps this is God's wake up call to you, to be set free from bondage to the temporary, and lay hold of eternity in the freedom and glory of God, through Jesus Christ.

The darkness seems to be shredding around the edges in response to the concentrated light, and within the light you can tell it is peaceful. Also, I feel that if I was a traveler and came upon this person, I could sit with them and be understood. Perhaps I too would be illuminated by them and so come to shine forth my own light.

In many ways, freedom from the temporary is relevant to us because we have such high potential to become addicted to things and people. The ability to transcend those things on the road to greater understanding is a superpower and does not come easy. It takes much work and practice. With or without God, someone who can let the temporary pass by them without it sapping their strength is someone who has come and can go far.

Thanks for the insightful review Ngforlife!

This piece has been a bit of a close one for me, oddly enough, it's been a reoccurring dream. multiple times, i'd be in ruins, no family, no home, everything else around is turned to ash; with the lingering question: "What remains?.. Jesus. Yes, Jesus remains.. now is He enough?" bringing back the constant reality that:

"Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away." Matthew 24:35
Is my hope in family? My security in my home and career? fill in the blanks.. but when tested by time, we find they will all fade away one day. Except for the eternal. Which is why the verse on futility remains. We have the yearning for something more, and we don't find it in the material for a reason. it is to point us to Jesus, Creator of the material. Yes, these are created for us to enjoy (family, marriage, food, etc), but never to replace the Creator and that relationship with Jesus, that far exceeds anything that is created.

"Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6

We can seek enlightenment and separation from the material things, but that isn't the goal. The goal is to seek the one who made us, Jesus Christ, and be transformed: Who renews our heart, mind, and soul, joined with Him as His family and heirs in heaven; Where we can truly experience what we've been longing for.
