Princess Kairi was close friends with Sora, a young sailor who was soon shipped off to a war. However, his ship sunk from a supernatural force and he was never heard from again.

Many years later, Kairi, now a young woman, was kidnapped by pesky pirates. On their way to their ship, they were attacked by merfolk, dragged the pirates down and drowned them in the ocean one by one until she was alone. Then a pair of large clawed hands grabbed onto the rowboat, pulling up a large merman onto the boat. He looked at her with a familiar goofy grin and assured her that she was safe and sound. It was Sora and with a crown on his head, she concluded he had become King of the Merfolk.
