We are things that are easily discouraged. Our minds are bound by the primal urge to more often than not believe in the gross negatives than the larger points of a positive. We sit within our homes and find the luxuries those before us could little conceive of. Our children grow in the years, experiencing the very sentiments we may or may not realize.

This is the alchemical process of ourselves. That our unknowing innocence and privilege of social structure, excess, are delivered unto the children, our children. Yet children grow faster now, as do their minds. Each year a small unit of capacity in the human condition is sped up to accommodate. They know technology we never knew and so display response we never factored.

Yet as we hear and see, there are many whose dependability is reliant upon the devices given to themselves. The parents shall cry out that technology has consumed their child, and that society is ruined by plastics and metals. The truth however is that it is not simply an Operating system that defines our disconnection, but our inability to attempt connection, adaptation.

A parent stares at their child across the table and watches them play on their phone. They roll their eyes, grow a bitterness in their hearts and remain quiet on the matters. Or perhaps they may discourage with cruel words and absolutes to dismiss the device. The parent could not adapt or chose little to attempt dual integration with their son or daughter, thus a divide of understanding is brought between both.

They try to grow crafty, create counter devices that lock out access to televisions, phones and computers. Absence does not create unity, it simply proves fear of the unknown, and the most primal of choices: Destroy the things we cannot understand or adapt to. We cannot cry out that our society is in ruins and then roam the streets not making eye contact with people. We are social things, and we deny ourselves the ability to socialize simply because we place ourselves in the corner, apathetic and already assuming there is nothing to be done.

Yet there is everything to be done, and most importantly it begins with action rather than simply reaction. Resignation is the choice of limitation, and there are many factors to be discouraged about, but if we are so disposed to reclaiming a faction of our understanding, we must too grow, no matter the age or experience, to reach our arms out in turn. To stop the world for timelessness, is to walk in reverse.
