So is this traced or painted over top the original...?
It's hard for me to tell cause it's low res.
The values are nice and I hope you did get something out of it :)
and thank you for having a look.
This was made with one reference photo (in colour). I used a Program called "Pure Ref" so I wouldn't be tempted to colourpick and/or trace certain parts because that would refute the purpose of the value practice.
I did however have to tweak quite a lot during and after painting, because I messed up certain parts of the first sketch and haven't been able to fix everything. So her eyes and parts of her neck still aren't exactly right but oh well, close enough. Because of that tweaking I chose to downsize the resolution, so the marks from the "liquify Filter" aren't as obvious.
But yes, I do think I did get something out of it even if it was just a bit of frustration-tolerance and the realisation that I really need to spend more time to perfect the first sketch ;)
Best wishes to you and have a wonderful day
really nice work, Lucy Liu is one of my all time favorite actors, you're talented n__n *feelin all jelly*
Hello again Mr. Bear
and thanks a lot for your kind words and the shiny Twinkles.
Yeah, I really like her work too, and whenever a new film comes out with her in it, I just have to watch it.
Best wishes and have a pantastic day
I love it. This is really a beutiful portrait of a beautyl.
and thank you kindly for your words and the shiny things
Best wishes and have a beautiful day
Wow. Just.... wow.
Incredible. Was this done with charcoal pencil?
And thanks a lot for the praise :)
I'm afraid I have to give you a rather unimpressive answer though. This is a value study I did in Photoshop. I had the source picture (I think this might have been a promotional shot from Lucy) in a Smart Ref window, so I wouldn't be tempted to colourpick the values.
I have done some traditional pieces but haven't picked up a charcoal pencil in years and am sure i wouldn't be able to pull that off... But you know, now I kinda want to try it ^^
Best wishes to you and have an awesometacular day
