what would you say the average turnaround time per background is?

About 3-4 hours, I guess. I have some really rough idea in the story board that I do a rough sketch on top of. Then color, shading, light, effects, etc. I try not to obsess over detail, and focus on keeping things consistent.
You really have to stand back in awe for this one!
Sure is.
Backgrounds very often go unoticed but this time will be different.
