Meet Ruvarashe, the female lead from my recently drafted novellaΒ The Slave Prince of Zimbabwe. She is the reigning Mambokadzi, or Queen, of Zimbabwe (referring not to the modern country but to the medieval kingdom of Great Zimbabwe), a fierce and proud yet compassionate woman who would sooner fight to the death than let herself and her people be ravished by their enemies. When the protagonist Drazhan is sent to abduct her for his master's harem, it is Ruvarashe who fends him off and then offers him an alternative path to freedom.
That triple-bladed stiletto she's holding in her hand is something I invented for the story, but is inspired by the Japanese sai.
