Of all the Akuun'Dur presence the sight of the Morarch ships is dreaded most of all. Of almost unfathomable size, they breach the atmosphere of a conquered planet and dump an unending surge of fuming black sludge onto the world below.

Once this "black tide" has seeped over the entire surface the planet goes completely dark- all living creatures frozen and preserved beneath the bio-darkness... and the world collapses in on itself, vanishing forever. It has been taken, by all accounts, to the 'Emptiness', an evil dimension of eternal darkness and silence, there to be reanimated, with every creature from the smallest crawling thing to the populations of entire cities acting out a living nightmare- grotesque mockery of the lives they once had, as the eyes of nameless elder things watch from the vast darkness, and learn.

The Akuun'Dur are the single greatest threat to humanity, and with each planet lost that enemy grows stronger, learning from captured human memories and spinning webs within webs of plots and strategies, in their unceasing quest to extinguish the Core and return the universe to darkness and cold.
