Very accurate.
This one I did inspired by a suicide bomber incident in Stockholm that there were a lot of fuzz about the winter 2011.
What I'm trying to do with this painting is to criticize terrorism and war, and the whole idea of sacrificing yourself for a religion (for exampel) to become a martyr, when really, the only differnece between that kind of martyrdom and "a regular suicide" is that you also take the lives of the people around you and cause a lot of media attention. It doesn't make you a hero of any kind.
It only makes you dead.
I'm also criticizing all the hysteria that exists around terrorism (like 9/11 for example), and the whole idea that a terrorist only comes in the shape of a dangerous looking arabic man, when really, it could be the least person you'd expect.
The quote on her chest is from the book "Survivor" by Chuck Palahniuk. Which also inspired me a lot in this painting.
2012. Acrylic.
Very accurate.
