Great art as always! I was wondering, which waterials you use to make these pieces? Is it (dip) pen and ink? or maybe fineliners? Both? Also, which kind of ink do you 'normally' use and on what kind of paper? Lastly, what kind of scanner do you use to get such crisp details appear? I've been experimenting with my scanner, and it always seem to never pick up the black lines properly, i always have to either edit it digitally or double down on outlining a piece to create blacker lines (not sure if this description makes sense), which takes a whole butt load of time.

The first couple of questions are mainly a curiosity, but the last one with the scanner and such is what i'm struggling with the most at the moment. If you could suggest something or maybe recommend settings and scanning and editing techniques, it would be highly appreciated. If not, well i guess i just have to figure it out myself...

That's enough of the ranting. Great job as always, really love the detailing and the contrast, the composition is weird and amazing! And great use of black as well! Lastly, when is the 'starship escort girl' gonna have it's own series? I think it deserves a little spin-off :)

apolloniasaintclair responds:

When I work analog I use mainly eccopigment fabercastell liners or sometimes uniball eye micros... I was fed up to have ink on my fingers. I use a normal office scanner from hp, but yes, there is always work involved to get the contrasts right. Finally, I do mostly digital these days, for the reasons above. I use an ipad with a conventional drawing app like sketchbook or procreate. This helps a lot to get the detAils right and to streamline the work process.
The starship escort girl is indeed a longtime project of mine: I hope I can make time soon to make something like a graphic novel out of it. Stay tuned!

very cool art.
