This is a drawing of me and my severely autistic sister, Sarah. We are 16 months apart, and were both diagnosed with autism at an early age. And for my entry for the Concept of Love Contest, what better entry to do than sisterhood?

Anyways, here are some facts about my sister:

Unlike me (who has higher functioning autism), my sister is lower functioning, meaning she is not potty trained, she only eats certain foods (ex. Spaghetti), and she has had meltdowns and tantrums more than I do (which I don’t do anymore).

She also does third grade math and other stuff, but that’s how some lower functioning kids are with the spectrum. And I accept that.

When she has a behavior, she’ll dig her chin into her palm and start hitting, but luckily, she don’t do it all the time. Because we both have social workers who help us with our problems.

Last but not least, she can stim for at least up to multiple hours a day. She flaps her hands and pace around on her tippy toes. Sometimes, I myself can flap my hands, but I only do that twice a week, and that’s only when I’m excited.

But nonetheless, I still love her with all my heart for who she is. And we’ll forever be sisters.
