Been reading through the Dororo manga (the original one from the 60's, not the recent one) lately. One of the earliest chapters has Hyakkimaru get attacked by a group of bandits, then afterwards by a pair of sentient sandals, both of which he just slaughters (especially the sandals, the blood in this picture is not an exaggeration). It's an effective establishing moment, as well as a good wake-up call for anyone who's only familiar with Osamu Tezuka through his lighter works like Astro Boy.
