Newgrounds Wiki: Why This?

2 Medals (105 points)

Overview

'Why This?' is a game about a murder-suicide. It's pretty short and takes only a couple of minutes to complete, but you may wish to replay it a few times if you want to unlock the "Tic Tac" medal faster.

Instructions

The controls are as follows:
  • A - move left
  • D - move right
  • W - jump

    Walkthrough

Go right until you find a gun (you will pass a cross with a timer on it, which you can ignore for now). Pick up the gun, and a cutscene will follow. Keep going forward until you reach a house; there will be another cutscene. Continue to the right and jump off the cliff. That was easy, wasn't it?

    Medals

    Tic Tac (100 points)
The Rabbit number 8
Remember that cross with the timer on it? The medal is obtained by letting the timer reach zero. Fortunately, you don't have to wait the full 8,040 seconds because the timer speeds up every time you complete the game. In other words, it will run twice as fast if you finish the game once, three times as fast if you finish the game twice, and so on.

You can use the waiting time to do other things, such as play another game or work on your homework (some Flash games do run more slowly if you switch to another window, but Why This? does not seem to be one of them). Note: Due to a glitch, you may get a blank screen when the timer runs out. If this happens, you may see some broken text on the screen; click the text to get the medal and return to the menu. If you don't see anything, then you'll have to start over. Sorry. :-( A Sad Win (5 points, secret)
..........
Refer to the walkthrough above. You must click the "replay" button to get the medal.

Technical Notes

It takes about 155 seconds to go through the game once, assuming no time is wasted. To find the optimal number of times the game needs to be completed, we must find a value of n such that

155n + 8,040 / (n + 1)

is at a minimum. It can be seen that n = 5 in this case; that is, you should finish the game five times before letting the timer run out.
