Wow. Got onto the DBZ Collections! A big THANKYOU to Tom and Wade!
Anyway, work is well underway for my next tribute, watch out for it! ;)

If you liked this animation, please give me a review, I try and reply to them all, so give me a review to let me know what you think, thanks.

Well this is my first submission to newgrounds and my first true animation now don't switch off and blam, cos this is my first animation, this isn't like the crappy first animations most submit! This is fully drawn, and well animated!
I started this in around October and throughout this animation you can see my drawing skills improving.

If you're a DBZ fan you'll LOVE this, if you're a neutral and decide to vote on how well done this is you'll find this to be good, if you hate DBZ and blam anything with DBZ in it then please, leave now.

This was a college project and we were originally supposed to do a storyboard of 4-5 (original or based on a tv show or movie of you choice, I chose a DBZ tribute) scenes and put into Flash and add some sound, smooth animation and tweens, well I done over 50 scenes with many sounds and music and I got a merit (which means I showed initiative and went beyond the set goals that had to be met) pass for this, it really is that good.

This is when Goku turns SSJ for the first time on Planet Namek, this is from the time Krillin gets blown up until the time Goku goes SSJ and Frieza is wondering: WTF?!

The music is from the Japanese and English versions of Dragonball Z. It features the original Jap theme song "Cha-la Head Cha-la" (used as main theme for this animation) by Kageyama Hironobu as well as the SSJ fight theme from the Jap DBZ. The other music is "SSJ Transformation" and "Rock the Dragon" by Bruce Falcouner. There are sound effects for lightning, rocks cracking and wave sounds and I can't remember where I found those, but credit to the creators of them.

OK some specifications for best performance:
If your PC is under 1000MHz or you are running many programs turn down the quality so the music is synched right.
If you computer is 1000MHz or higher then it should run perfectly.

Special Thanks go to John Butler, my 2D animation lecturer for helping me with the preloader and teaching me flash and also Akira Toriyama for creating DBZ!

Now, on with the show! ENJOY!

Not bad

It was ok. The first thing I noticed was it's very accurate to the actual episode. People that can't see that one will at least be able to see the next best thing. The only difference between this and the real episode is the other one has better drawings and animation. Of course the people that drew that scene are amazing artists, so it's stupid to compare it to yours, which are pretty good. The music is very DBZ. I'm happy to see that they're original tracks and well synced together. The things I find bad about this is it captures the stalling of the DBZ series. Also, Gohan makes the same god damn face every time. He did make that face, but it's extremely annoying. I can't blame you for that though. I watched this movie to see the recreation of Goku going super saiyan, which I did. I haven't seen it in years, and i'm happy to say this is the next best thing. Like I said before, the animations are up to speed with them, but at least the quality is better (no blurry screen). Good job.

Barry-the-SuperScot responds:

Thanks for the review. Glad you liked it. I tried to make it as accurate as possible in the time I had.

No voice killed it.....

Hey im srry to be rude and all, but my opinion is that
the no voice killed it!!!!
I know it alot to ask but, the orginal episode provided the voice which sets the mood perfectly. This is not the best of ur work im srry

Good idea but bad results......

Barry-the-SuperScot responds:

I'm sorry to be rude and all but you can't spell very well.
Anyway, how can you possibly say this is "not the best" of my work? Considering it's the ONLY work I have put up here? This is by far my best finished work.

And a score of 3 for sound is unjustified due to lack of voices (which I've explained the reason for many times) when there is music and sound effects.
Do you have any idea how to make a flash? No. Plus I got a very good grade in flash class for this.

well, you copied every little picture from dragonball z book number 27, and it was a little choppy. Make your flashes smoother ; if ur doing fbf, only move a little at a time.

Barry-the-SuperScot responds:

Well considering I don't have the book and I was making a tribute to the episode you are COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY WRONG.
And don't try to patronise me on how to do fbf, like I don't know how to do it. If anything I know MORE than you on it and how to make a flash, you haven't made any, have you?
Begone, fool.

Almost there

Well, I'm reviewing this as a Flash movie, so when we come about the graphics, they're not that nice - probably because I immediatly recognize (obviously) and pictured that DBZ episode in mind, so the comparison is inevitable. Some characters were out of proportion, for example. It's a pratice matter, anyway. The lighting and explosion sounds were cool, a pity that they along with the music were the only sounds I could hear, I wished for more. About style, it's exactly the DBZ episode, so it´s enough. It got a little humorous when seeing some of the pictures, I must admit it. A good first work with a good room for improvement, it's like an average work. Nice job and effort!

Barry-the-SuperScot responds:

Thankyou for your well wrote and well justified review.

I'm glad that you reviewed as a reviewer should and I agree with your points about some parts being out of proportion and there being room for improvement. The matter of voice which is what I guess you were implying, well this was my first ever work and as I have explained before I didn't have the sound clip from the episode and it would've been hard to synch.

I can assure you that the overall quality of Vegeta SSJ is well above this in every way, there are many more frames of animation and from what I've done, I think it's pretty damn good, and I can't wait to show it!
So keep a look out for it!

Fails for using English dub dialogue and mixing Japanese music with English audio.

Japanese version of Kuririn's death is much better. Especially since Freeza threatens to go after Gohan next, rather than saying "Pop goes the weasel."

Newgrounds seriously lacks Dragon Ball Z content regarding the original and not the FUNimation dub.

Barry-the-SuperScot responds:

And how many people on NG do you think seen thhe original? Not a lot, that's how many.
I WOULD use the Japanese version if I seen it...
