A challenge for your patience. This game was created for Jam C3 and involves ships and a maze that can not be touched by the ship as it explodes. 20 Stages for fun!
- Left mouse button Shot
- Right mouse button Throttle
- Move mouse fot angle
There are some difficult but doable levels, however level 9 is impossible to clear. The ship outside the walls can't be reached, so I can't finish the game.
I was confused at first in the first level. Was I supposed to touch the round thing to end the level? Nope. You shoot it down because if you touch it, you die. Got it, I thought. That was just one little error and I didn’t mind at first.
It requires only slight thruster adjustments to the ship to navigate these mazes. If you boost to much, then you need that much energy + more just to get the other way.
Then you get to Level 3, which has three ships that take more damage than you (you need to hit them several times whereas you only take one shot and you are dead). I managed to get through them after several attempts since on the reload of the level, they spawn differently and have different behavior (they were stationary at the midpoint and endpoint of the level, but after the first try, they are pursuing you from the start of the level).
I got to Level 4. Did you test that level enough? I think that it is impossible because you need so much energy just to clear the moving blocks, and then a lot of energy just to move the ship back the other way, not to mention dodging the aimbotting enemy ship which doesn’t have to follow the same physics that your ship does. You should have given players a lot more energy, either as starting energy or as numerous energy powerups or delete those stupid moving blocks that move so freaking fast and apparently they don’t need to obey Newtonian physics either. And no, I know there’s an energy powerup to the bottom left of the two 3x1 skating movement blocks that’s in the passage underneath the one you start in, so I got that far with just 6 energy before the blocks killed me anyway (and not to mention I skipped that circle drone thing on the top right which is of course mandatory to kill, but I wanted to know if the red fighters dropped energy, which is to say, nope.)
I really wanted to like this game. I really did. But Level 4 pisses me off, and if you can claim you can do it by posting a video walkthrough as-is, then I’ll be extremely amazed. Otherwise, this is an unfair game so why bother creating all those other levels anyway if you’re going to gimp the player like this in an early level.
This is probably one of those that you shouldn't give up on, though; it is version 1.0 after all. You can make it fair, but challenging, such as giving the player ship armor of some sort since the opponents have armor and being more generous with energy pickups, even if it allows players to rocket around the stage quickly if they have the skills to compensate. Please resubmit or make a sequel if they don't allow updates.
Gameplay is challenging, the graphics are serviceable. Music is a bit grating. You mentioned fullscreen in a response to another review, but I can't figure out how to go fullscreen? Pressing F does nothing, you got no in-game button and your command list doesn't state a key.
Plus a fun lil thing I noticed: On the start menu, if press the throttle button, you can hear the ship - if you hold it down, you can hear it flying, then eventually crash and all goes silent.
Thanks for the comments I will make changes.
I really like the music and visuals! The game is cute, and simple enough. However, I can't see much on the "three" theme besides there being three things you control. The mouse only controls make this game impossible to play on a touchpad. In order to play, I had to hook up a USB mouse. Maybe consider adding in keyboard controls as an option in the future.
I liked the idea of adding the keyboard later. The game is small with only 20 levels for the full JAM but has 100 stages.
Not a bad concept at all. However I found the gameplay to be incredibly difficult, not so much from the controls themselves but in the limited fuel. Perhaps that could be less limited?
Also the only other thing I noticed was the fact is the game was especially tiny looking on my screen, maybe scaling up the assets would be better (The player at least).
Good luck with the C3 Jam :)
Thanks for the comments. The fuel serves only to give an impose after let gravity take it gives, I even when I did the tests tested the possibility of overcoming them. And the graphics are small because of the window that is small here on the site, if you use full screen you will see better.
