I did this in under 38 hours. Programmed and did all the art from scratch. I took music I already made and threw it in here. First time working with the new grounds API so hope everything works!

Next time consider using .ogg for the music. .ogg works in both Firefox and Chrome. .mp3 doesn't work in Firefox. Not a huge deal as the game is completely playable without sound but just sayin'.

Actually it's a bit more of a conundrum than that. I believe in both Internet Explorer and Safari you have to use .mp3, most other browsers are either .ogg-only or you can use either.

So you can either assume most people use Firefox or Chrome and go with .ogg or you may have to include both .ogg and .mp3 files, serving up the .mp3 to users of Internet Explorer/Edge/Safari, and .ogg to everything else.

And yep this will increase the filesize of the project but it's the only way to ensure it'll work as intended across the major browsers. But if you're going to go with just one, .ogg is a better choice than .mp3.

Gameplay-wise it's fine. Not as smooth as ideal, but then again HTML5/JavaScript is kinda chunky so there's probably not a whole lot you can do about that. Not like it's a natively-playing program or anything like that. You did good based on the limitations of the platform.

The funny part about this is that I originally intended to only use .ogg sounds types. But the html5 environment I worked in is hella wonky, so whenever I tested the game, sounds wouldn't play or they'd do some random glitches. In the gamejam, all I cared about was functionality so mp3 were the way to go.

This advice is really good tho. Never knew the specifics about how each sound type functioned on different platforms. Imma need to add some code to check the platform the game is working on and switch audio formats accordingly. Already sounds like FUN to implement lol.
