This is my first attempt at an animated project. Halfway through, I switched from using Photoshop to OpenToonz. Scenes were composited in After Effects.

A man wakes up, chained and naked in the woods. He's been left as a human sacrifice. He must attempt to escape the demon that chases after him.

A poll comics project: during the storyboarding process, readers voted on what happened next. Readers contributed details about the characters and the settings. Normally I turn the project into comics, but this time around I wanted to try my hand at animation. Characters who were based on reader input are put into the public domain (see http://www.pollcomics.com/wiki/doku.php?id=blood_opera for details- I need to update it with the latest character information).

Music: "Surprise" from Titan's album, Bollocks Titan. Found on freemusicarchive.org under a non-commercial, attribution, sharealike Creative Commons license.

Foley was found on freesound.org, and includes contributions from users J1987 ("cloth fold"), benboncan ("fly 1"), cosmicembers ("snapping chain"), under7dude ("heavy breathing"), and theshaggyfreak ("rattling chains 1").

You've got a very cool style. Good direction also.

Good one! Made me wish to see a little more before it ended, but it was an entertaining short to follow, specially knowing how the sequence was structured.
I do agree with some comments on the artstyle, I actually think that the sharp black&white style shown on the credits drawings (I think its an animatic?) would've been a more expressive style for the story.
The shaking camera was a good touch, but to me it seemed that the 'blur' effect was a bit overused, it works great on the subjective (point of view) takes, and when the character is just getting up, but then it felt a bit distracting from the action.

That said, keep it up!

Really good job emulating a shaky camera, and great choice of music.
If I had one criticism it would be that the artstyle seems unfitting for the mood of the story.

RamLama responds:

Thanks for the comments! After Effects is a pretty powerful program and made the shaky cam easy. I'm looking forward to working other FX into future experiments.
