Author Comments

This is the 2nd chapter of The Splitting, an episodic mystery adventure game.

The Splitting is a mystery adventure game. The game tells the story of Daniel, who wakes up one morning to find out his reflection in the mirror is gone, allowing him to pass through the mirror into the almost identical mirror world.

In the first chapter, Daniel gets to know the mirrored world and its unique relationship with the real one, and starts investigating the disappearance of his reflection.

In the 2nd chapter, Daniel arrives at an asylum, where he meets a group of people who lost their reflections. There he dives deeper into this world, and learns more details about the people he travels with.

YES. YES. YES. AND YES. This was my reaction back in 2018 when The Splitting: Chapter 2 first came in my feed, offering me a really unique experience, equally intriguing to the first one.
A second chapter to a story which does neither degrade the original submission, nor becomes just a bad following to an eminent original, nor endangers ruining the flow of the series (unlike many, many other circumstances). What else could be told except COMPLETE SUCCESS? It is a fantastic, amazing, startling submission that overpasses and multiplies the meaning and the entertainment of its ancestor, touching every part of our brains through its many layers of perfection. Daniel, the main character and his lost reflection that caused the story to unfold, llehctiM and his missing partner, geM, Stella, miJ and numerous other appearances spice up a marvelous plot, whose proven mastership is really unseen before (for me). Perfection in plot is accompanied by perfection in programming; not wanting to praise more than deserved, the @Fireberrystudio team is performing miracles in both Chapter 1 and Chapter 2, combining therefore graphics and plot in an almost unmistaken way which assists the whole act. Also the nice interactions of the first part are there even better. And more challenging yet entertaining quests mean the game definitely levels up in this case, into the bargain. The mirror-based gameplay is literally great; wonder why not many other creators were inspired.

Only a handful of notices before my rating, not willing to blame anyone:
1. A few of the objects which originate to the first Chapter are not useful at all in the remaining sections of the story and the gameplay; thus why do they remain selectable?
2. [Spoiler for the plot] An partially amusing detail is that if the player closes the entrance door when going to seek Dorian, llehctiM will open it. It is not crucial, however it makes the scene seem more active.
3. [Spoiler] Cannot understand the reason that once Daniel crosses the entrance door of the asylum from behind in the "real" world, then the receptionist does not forbid him anymore, or at least does not close the door after Daniel leaves the room.
4. Finally, a question that should have been written in my review for Chapter 1, nonetheless was forgotten: when myself played the game in 2017-2018 it had a quite district structure. Once returned in it in 2022, a few details had been altered, such as the place the player would meet llehctiM (previously it was the s'llehctiM room, after it took place in the kitchen) or the quotes the two characters would exchange. Was this a careless outcome from the update of the game due to the AFP finish in early 2021 or did the author(s) plan to correct or change the mentioned beforehand details once they were given the chance?

After those not crucial notices, my rating is a full 10 out of 10 stars, since there were so many objects that satisfied me when visiting and revisiting this fascinating, outstanding submission.
Conclusively The Splitting: Chapter 2 is a big YES for me. Very disappointed... ...that it is rated below 4.5 by fellow users. It seems so disrespectful and demonstrates a never-satisfied part of the website.

It's been fun revisiting these games! Thank goodness for the walkthrough though I definitely did get stuck a couple of times again, heh.
