Here is a game project i've been working on for the last 3 months. It's a fun retro platform game and I made it to support my friend's new Album which was launched this month.

Using left, right and up cursor keys, navigate your hero Flash past the evil enemies to the reach the decks and complete each level. The quicker you complete each level, the more points you get and you get a bonus if you score over 20 points on each level of the game.

There is also a cool private league function where you can compete against your friends to see who can score the most points with the hero. I've made a league for newgrounds so come and play - the ID is WPKAPM

Finally, check out the awesome soundtrack which features snippets of the superb Flash Atkin's album which was released last week.

Hope you enjoy and your feedback is very welcome!

Thanks,
Gamenet

p.s. Apologies for the slightly large filesize - it's because of all the lovely music in the game!

The music is great and provides great ambience.
As some stated before me, the controls are a real problem since they are not responding well, which is essential in a platformer. You can only jump while walking, i.e. pressing left or right slightly before the jump button. It took me ages to get onto the first moving platform because it seems to have a much larger hitbox than the actual platform.
I'm sure you can find better places or ways to promote the nice music ;)

Thanks for your feedback! Not sure why the hitbox was wrong for you as it was fine for me. Yes the controls are not perfect, but it is my first platform game so I guess i'm learning :) And as for my friend's album, I said I was learning games and he was launching an album with a superhero so it made sense to have a go! Sorry the controls didn't work for you though. :)

Sorry but this is just bad. Controls are unreliable and frequently unresponsive. You press the jump button and maybe you jump maybe you don't. You try to walk left and maybe you jump right instead.

This thing is a RAM hog too. Work on that!

I support musicians and trying to get your friend's music out there. Nothing wrong with that. But this game needs lots of testing. This is just unplayable as-is.

The biggest issue here is the poor controls. Everything else could be forgiven if this was a first game, because the lack of a consistent art-style definitely harms the presentation of the game, but it isn't, so points off. In regards of controls, the up button doesn't jump. Any button that makes something happen in the game does. The controls are floaty, the jump mechanics are awkward and the player is met with 'witty' comments about moving and jumping. Not a good game.

gamenet responds:

Thanks for your feedback. I've taken out the witty comments - they were mainly there for the mobile version which is a bit harder to play as there is no jump button there.

Controls are wonky. Atkins freezes for a few seconds if he fails a jump & takes a while to get moving again. Oh, and he can't jump unless he's moving.

There's also a bar on the left that depletes itself the more you jump which makes playing feel worse.

At this point just walking straight through the spikes & the ghosts seems easier.

gamenet responds:

Ahh - its not doing that for me :(
