Butter Quest: The Druid

Author Comments

BQ:TD is a simple side-scrolling platform game where the player controls a humble Druid on her quest to save the forest from destructive machines.

I made this as an assignment for school, so you may find some glitches or notice some functionality is missing. But please feel free to send in your feedback, it will help make the next game even better!

EDIT: As mentioned in the comments, you may experience some movement glitches on level 2, depending on your PC hardware. I believe it's a result of over-use of graphics, which becomes much less of an issue later on. I've scaled down the play window to help reduce the problem.

The character should move faster. Remove the lag, it can ruin even the best game.

Umm, so I got pushed of a ledge by an invicible force, hoovered in the air for a little while, tried to use the wolf's dash-power-thingy in hopes of getting back on the ledge, but just started falling for all eternity? It's at the part where after I've gotten the bear-power and proceeded to the next stage (level 5 I think?), by the shop. I was just walking forward to go in to the shop, not pressing any other buttons.

I'll give it two stars though, because I like the concept of the whole beast-transformation thing, but overall for me it was just a bit too slow-paced and it was very annoying to keep bouncing of walls. Ah well, I'm curious to see if you'll ever develop this game further though, because I think it has great potential!

this game is kind of laggy when it comes to her jumping.

im sick and tired of platformers where you're forced to move at a crawl.... come on. did you play test this? for what possible reason would the player want to walk so slowly? the animation is cute and all but when you combine the pitifully weak jump with the snail's pace im inevitably going to lose interest pretty quickly.

Joelyoly responds:

I did play test it, and I found that the wolf moves faster than any other character, in addition to the Druid having a sprint button. For the sake of realism I made everything else slower, which therefore gives you a reason to use those faster options. If the base speed was drastically higher, players wouldn't be able to see the threats ahead until it was too late. You may also notice that there's a shop to purchase items to jump higher and run faster. Isn't that convenient?

i'm giving you extra to counter act some of your bad scores. good game! i really liked it. the wolf wouldn't hold stamina tho, almost like it only filled when he was attacking which made that form nearly useless as attacking would drain your health.
