Water the cactus is my first game. Just a quick little game to practice before I start making some real stuff. I felt the need to just get something out there.
I'm a new developer and felt like the newgrounds community could give me some good feedback on the game and what to do next! Thanks for trying it out!

I found myself frustrated.
I played maybe 10 rounds and in about 6 of those 10 I died before the first water drop fell...I see no way to increase rain production, so I see that 60% of the time I'll lose before anything good happens, and that leads me to not want to play.
I mean, your game was functional and it was a fun idea and you had good art to go with it, but its too hard. Looks like I need 300 coins to next level, and after 10 rounds I have 7 coins..I don't have it in me to grind to the next level.
Don't feel discouraged though, I see potential in this, I'm just giving you my grievances to help you as a dev <3
It was aight, it flowed smooth, would have liked arrow keys or wasd because I have been using a trackpad for about 4 years.. but good work regardless :)
Haha, I see! Thanks so much for your input. It was originally designed as a mobile game and I did a relatively lazy port to web. I'm glad that you played it long enough to give an honest opinion. I no longer have an interest in fixing this game, though I'll take your considerations into account next game around. Thanks a lot.
Congrats on your first game! I've seen this idea done before, but the mouse mechanics felt a bit different than others I have played. Graphics look fun and relaxed, which fits well with the simple gameplay. I would have liked to have seen prices in the shop. Or at least been able to use the other skins, as they all said "owned". You should add a barrier to the edge of the screen so the cactus cannot leave it, this combined with the sloppy-feeling gameplay left me rather disinterested. Sound would be a good add on.
You said that you just wanted to "just get something out there" , and that is the perfect attitude to have as a programmer. User feedback can only make you better. This was a good first game. Keep working and good luck!
Ah, that shop problem is definitely a bug. I'll fix that now. This is exactly the kind of review I was shooting for. I agree that just getting things out there constantly and constantly tweaking and working on things is the best mentality to have in programming, and also in life in general. Thanks a lot for the great feedback. I'll definitely update with all of the above.

Very nice basis, especially for a first game. The only thing I can say against it is that you ought to put a little instructions bit at the start and make the side-scrolling a little more responsive, lest your wish is to make game at Flappy Bird level difficulty.
That's a good point. I do want to make it flappy bird difficulty. But I do think instructions would be useful. Thanks for the input!
Alright good concept but the mouse controls are hard to handle it would work better with keyboard controls (arrow keys). As for new ideas, howw about converting this idea into a platformer. where you have to get the water but avoid the sun enemies
That's a nice little idea. I think you're right about the keyboard controls. I'll get on that. As for the platformer, that's a neat idea for a future game, but probably beyond the scope of this one. I think a platformer is going to be my next project, too. Anyway, thanks a lot for the input!
