TELEGRAM is a game made for the Asylum Jam.

Set in the Battle Of The Somme (WW1), you play as a Telegram boy, sent to deliver an important telegram to the Allied British forces in the Somme. This is a short-and-sweet horror game about your story in the base.

My aim was to make a game with as little cliches as possible, most importantly – as little Jumpscares as possible. Some would argue I didn’t make this goal, as blood writing may be a cliche, but it’s essential to the actual game, if I’ll have to say so myself.

I am well aware this is very short, small, and has little characterization and story, and my main argument is “You can’t really make a decently-sized horror game in 48 hours”. While some would consider it alright, many will say we were all just lazy, unproductive, unmotivated, idea-less, or generally procrastinated. While other game jams provide much more lifespan for games like Ludum Dare and other 48-hour jams, making a horror game was quite hard, specifically with our ideas. I had limited time, models, and literally no cash to spend on anything. It was just myself and the blokes who help me. I hope you appreciate the game for what it is, though.

Though it was short, and I know it is just a trial version the games have a eerie feel that I fell in love with within the first minute of play through.

Needs less "blood writing", as the author mentions, easily supplanted by more corpses with letters home or diaries on their persons.

Also needs a struggle... as is, I felt like a passive observer. Needs a sense of trying to figure out what to do, get props, etc... even if they turn out futile.

Needs an ending with resolution. Even if that's just the shadow of someone coming up behind you, it's a story element, saying "there he was." (There are a couple of better endings I can think of... Author can PM me if interested.

Well if your banking on spending cash for assets, as oppose to making your own things. Than you clearly missed the point of making a game. You can't just go around buying assets to use and expect to have a decent product to show. A decent product comes from scratch made assets. I mean it looks like you a bit of Amnesia and Counter Striker assets mixed in. (Gun/Soldier/desk/candel)

But my only gripe apart from the story that goes no where and an unlockable door. Is that almost nothing was scaled to size. The doors, guns and beds were way over sized. The flag seemed to be a bit over sized or something. It just didn't fit to me size way. Maybe it was the way it was folded over on the ground. And don't say that the 48 hour limit prevented that. Because it only takes 30 seconds to scale something. I 3d model things myself, at least I use to. So I know it doesn't take much time.

But overall, it's not bad. Though I really hate Unity.

I am not a modeler. I am a designer and programmer. Because I had trouble finding a team I had to use bought assets. In fact no one in the jam was a modeler. I don't know everything, and one of the things I don't know how to do is modeling.

The over-sized items are a metaphor for how small you are in this world. Many people didn't get that so I guess this goes on the "Things that went wrong" pile of the post-mortem.

I can counter with the argument of "Well I wanna see you try" but I'm here to say I respect your criticism and hope you've enjoyed the game.

This is not just alright,it's great!The atmosphere is chilling enough to start with(from the warnings on the wall to the blood and mess in the base,it gives the feeling that someone or something is going to jump out of nowhere,or at least,watching from a dark corner.)The designs are awesome even for something made from such a short time,it shows the effort put into it,so kudos for that.And the poem is fantastic to read,if not disturbing.Maybe,instead of rushing for this year's competition,it could have been better kept for Halloween as that would have given a lot more time,so please make a second part to this to show how the story will turn out.Anyway,great work on this and hope to see more!Good luck!
