UPDATE: Thanks a lot for the frontpage and all the nice reviews! :)
As I checked the Tutorial-genre on Newgrounds for flixel tutorials I noticed there aren't any and only a few on developing ActionScript 3 games. Since I have already developed a few games with flixel and know about its benefits and how great it is to start making games I thought I could try making one myself for the Newgrounds community.
The game shouldn't be too complicated, easy enough so that even someone without any experience on ActionScript could understand it...
The tutorial isn't just boring text, but it's made in an interesting and entertaining way, using cool effects and a tune made by RealFaction, who also helped me with the development aswell as the nice beta-testers. The tutorial is available in 4 versions. One for people with none experience on coding, one for people with experience on other languages than AS3, one for AS3-developers and one for people who have already used flixel. So that everyone gets the information he/she needs. Not more and not less.
Here's the table of content:
*CHAPTER I - Setting up flixel with FlashDevelop
*CHAPTER II - Importing and adding graphics
*CHAPTER III - Creating and adding a tilemap
*CHAPTER IV - Creating and adding a player
*CHAPTER V - Collisions
*CHAPTER VI - Input and movement
*CHAPTER VII - Creating and playing animations
*CHAPTER VIII - Importing and playing sounds and music
*CHAPTER IX - Using the Newgrounds API to create medals and ads
*CHAPTER X - Conclusion and where to go from here
Not only will it show how to use flixel but also the benefits of the Newgrounds API and how to use it with FlashDevelop and how to add medals and ads. The tutorial will be completely free and will lay the fundament for 8bit-gamedevelopment with flixel. People will be able to go anywhere from here and make their retro dreams come true. If it catches enough people's attention there will also be a second part on creating enemies, guns, more levels and other cool stuff or whatever THE PEOPLE DEMAND! ;)
Cheers!

Looks cool, ...even though I haven't started doing anything yet...
By the way, I doubt I am the only one who has only Mac stuff to work with. can you give me a link or something for Action Script 3 for Mac or something? I cant seem to find it online for some reason.
Also, I'd love to see more tutorial stuff on NG's and even a Tutorial section or something. I have been on here for the last several years, and I gotta say, nothing screams "everything made by everyone" more than created and used tutorial vids on graphic design, flixel, game stuff, et cetera.
I am sorry to dissappoint you with that, but I have a MacMini myself which I am mostly using for GarageBand, but when I wanted to install FlashDevelop it just wouldn't wok. I didn't really tried finding an alternative program for Mac but instead used BOOTCAMP that probably is on your Mac aswell, to make a WINDOWS partition. Now, when the Mac boots I can hold the ALT-key left to the spacebar and can choose which to boot. :)
I hope this can somewhat solve your problem, if you find a more suitable way or simpler way to code as3 on a mac, except of using Adobe Flash Professional while working completely codebased with flixel please let me know!
There will surely be a second part on this one soon! ;)

I never thought I would see a game making tutorial on Newgrounds until today. Though I did not like how you had to download the Flash items, I know it was necessary and unavoidable.
Pros:
-Good music
-Informative
-Gives the needed items with links inside the game instead of having your players look for it themselves
Cons:
-Certain parts were a bit hard to understand
-Did not notice a difference in the difficulties after changing them multiple times
-No picture examples to make it easier for the newbies to understand better
-Does not explain the codes properly about what each one does and what it is for
After playing this "game" I saw how certain parts were specific while others were a bit vague. While the game was very informative it also sometimes talked about unnecessary stuff. Overall it was a good "game" but that's it, try getting a little more interactive with the audience or something next time, good luck with your next project(if the votes come through that is).

I'm stuck at "so that's what we have! A blank stage! is there a way to fix that?
Have you pressed [X] maybe?

I think that this is a great way to create great games for anyone that has a great game idea. The only issue I have here is that when I follow the code, the best that I could, it ends up giving me an error and showing me it is with the code you have supplied me with. This isn't my first time coding either, I coded in DreamWeaver, VBS, and cmd. I will figure it out later but to others it may be a brain stopping issue.
Maybe add a "help me" button or have a place so people can ask others on what they are doing wrong.
Thanks! If you have questions write me PMs! ;)

I have installed and uninstalled the FlashDeveloper 5 times now, and downloaded the template about a dozen times, and it still won't work. Whenever it says double click and press F5, it gives me a message saying, "Error: a target file must be specified
Use 'mxmlc -help' for information about using the command line.
Build halted with errors (fcsh)."
Am I missing something obvious or does the program just not like me?
Not sure if you're using my Template?
