Hey guys, this is my first attempt at using flash to animate. I made this for a highschool "Personal Project" in about 2 days.
Useful tips and constructive criticism are very much welcome, because I am very new to this! Thanks
Good job on your first animation! The only criticism I could think of was to make his "gait" a little more even, unless you're going for a limp...then awesome job!
Well its certainly better than most peoples first submitions :) way to go. Of course in the long run animations often need color or sound, but as far as the animation itself, it wasn't to bad. I like the little walking shuffle cycle in the beginning, walking cycles are difficult and you did quite well. although I'd suggest if you show a close up have to different cycles, one with cleaner lines and more detail and another like the one you had and just merge them at the mid point as you shift out that way when its zoomed in it doesn't look as rough. other than that, sometimes it also helps if some motions are jerkier and faster than others, otherwise it may come off as very soft and less cartoon, more moving image, if you know what i mean. but yeah, all in all, certainly a good start. good luck and keep practicing, you seem like someone who could be pretty good at this given enough time.
This is great! Considering this is your first ever flash animation, you should be very proud! You got in a lot of things people don't often have in their early animations, things like facial expressions, a continuous walk cycle, and a little story that plays out. Great work, keep it up! I also like the art style you used ;)
Oh man... it's so strange seeing this review. I say this because almost all of my knowledge I have about Adobe Flash came directly from your youtube channel. Thanks for the feedback, Jazza. :)
Could use some sounds, and maybe a play/replay button, rather than having it infinitely loop? good animation quality though..
Hey thanks! Yeah I'll be sure to add sounds and a play button when I have the chance. I just didn't know how to add those, and I didn't want to accidentally ruin my animation. :)
This was pretty good! I like the twist. If more 'first attempts' were like this, Newgrounds would be a much better place.
The walk cycle was a bit off. The rear leg didn't go back far enough, so it looked like he should fall backward at any moment. See my most recent news post in my profile for some info about tutorials and stuff. Jazza makes great tutorials, and has two specifically dealing with drawing effective walk cycles. The link for his tutorials are in that post, and they should be helpful.
I actually submitted this to NewGrounds because of Jazza's channel. I know I still have much to learn though. Seriously, thanks for the feedback.
