Revive is a pixelated puzzle platformer in which you defy death, define life, and jump in puddles of syrup.

It is also a spiritual successor (in more ways than one) to a game of mine called Respawn.

Man, this project started small and snowballed into something more complex and personal over time. Four months of care were put into Revive's design, so without giving too much away, I hope you enjoy the ride.

Also, let me know if you find any glitches anywhere, and I will address them when I can!

[List of Fixes]
The Time Trial Run medal point value has been increased, slight changes have been made to the controls (such as pressing UP to jump), the collision detection on forks has been improved, and a couple of problems with the main menu are now gone.

I've heard the controls stick for some people. Not sure what would cause this, so if anyone can provide more details about this (like when it happens, what browser you're using, etc.), let me know.

WOW. This was really incredible. While it had a solid length to it, it wasn't too much, the storyline was flawless as far as I know, the gameplay is enjoyable, and everything done in the game is very clever, from what the optional objectives are to the literal meaning of the final line. Seriously one of my favorite games!

What a phenomenal creation! Where do I even begin?

As far as simple gameplay is concerned, you had me hooked from the moment I first stepped into a spike pit! You did a fantastic job of introducing the game's "clever" element, and showed a true understanding of proper pacing by slowly adding tweaks and innovative ways to utilize the revive system. I also appreciated the lack of hand-holding present- the ever-present GOV was kind enough to reference certain key objects, but I never felt like I was being explicitly told "Yo, push the blocks to move on/try running under them to die." Everything was laid out in a manner that made figuring out the puzzles possible, all the while giving the gamer the satisfaction of actually figuring it out themselves! This is game design that I miss dearly from video games nowadays- if companies started adopting these simple, yet effective, paradigms, I would probably start investing in console games again!

With gameplay as solid as this, any semblance of story is really just icing on the cake- in this reviewers humble opinion, a games plot will always be subservient to its gameplay. I've played a few of these test subject/lab rat style platformers here on Newgrounds, and I must say that I was most satisfied with how the story of this one played out. Though the general atmosphere was generally lighthearted, I rather appreciated the subtle air of mystery that was always present. Though GOV's quips kept me smiling most of the time, I couldn't help but ponder what sort of dark secret awaited at the end of the game. Without spoiling anything, I also would like to commend you on the SPECTACULAR ending! Totally did not see the last quote coming- I commend your sense of humour!

Sure, I could mention that the whole test subject motif has been done before, and that making use of it may be a little uninspired. Personally, I don't see how taking a used and re-used setting and putting a fresh spin on it is any less original than coming up with something completely new.

A VERY easy five star rating from me! No it's not perfect, but I don't think you should rate based on how perfect a title is, but on how much the creator strove for perfection. This is an absolute gem, and I hope to see more of your work soon! :)
