Made in 48 hours for #1GAMCRUNCH and #1GAM.

Y.O.L.O Explorer (Yet Other Landing Object) is a game similar to Motherload, you dig for resources in order to get better upgrades.

My game is a bit simpler, your main goal is to gather all of the artifacts (glowing balls) and in the process also gather minerals which can be used to upgrade your ship.

Instructions:
- Use mouse to fire laser, you will be propelled to the opposite direction.
- Chunks of rock are destroyed by the laser too. But in order to get deeper you will require an upgrade to laser system.
- Before being able to gather artifacts you must destroy their outer crust (blue lines), that can be done with the same method as always (guess how?).
- When you gather an artifact you will be presented with the upgrade menu, the upgrades cost minerals.
- Notice the fuel bar? Yea, there is fuel. Re-fuel your ship by going to the surface and going inside the nuclear fuel sign (costs M$ 1).
- Win by gathering all artifacts. There is unfortunately no real win screen, the game will simply pause at the last upgrade menu.

This is a really good game but it needs more work like a better control scheme

CaffeineViking responds:

I tried that in the early builds of the game, but it was
too easy to control the ship and didn't add character to the game.

But I think that giving the player a better leaning curve would be
more appropriate, like the game is easy at the start and gets harder
the longer down you progress.

I unfortunately didn't have time to develop that learning curve, so it became
a hard game from the start.

hard to control but im just a beginner..
I may play again when I have more patience

CaffeineViking responds:

Feel free to try anytime :)
Even me as the developer get a bit pissed
at how hard and unforgiving it is. But most of the fun in
this game is the pleasure in winning it.

Would be better if it were a little easier 2/5

CaffeineViking responds:

Then it would have been too easy :)

Interesting idea but it just ends up being so back in forth and then you just die. Maybe controlling with wasd and then using the mouse would be a nice.

CaffeineViking responds:

That was what I tried in the initial builds of the game, but it wasn't fun and
far too easy. By adding the shoot + move mechanic it added a great deal challenge
to the game.

This game is based a bit around rouge like elements, that once you die you die for good.
The thing that is missing is the replay ability like you said (it ends up being back and forth etc...),
if I had more time I would have spiced the game up with things that would have made it more fun
to retry the game.

Take Binding of Isaac for example, that game is great even if you die a lot. It's simply because it has a lot of replay ability.
