It's quite a nice game and I'm sorry to give it a relatively poor score, since I did enjoy it. I liked the graphics with the silly aliens, slowing down and losing parts when injured, and the ability to switch weapons while one is reloading. The weapons were adequately different from each other, and though the aliens could use more variation, it was nice that some of them had immunities to specific upgrades by carrying each other like teddy bears...
However, the game isn't balanced well. I had to repeat almost every one of the lower level several times in order to accumulate enough money to buy upgrades which allowed me to continue. However, the quadruple-this quadruple-that upgrades made the last couple of levels almost boring (except for the very last one, for which I had to re-equip).
Also, a couple of glitches: most if not all weapons simply don't fire the last shot. This is mostly felt with the launcher and laser. Combined with the sore lack of a manual reload button this became quite annoying. Occasionally the health bar of an alien wouldn't change (although it'd still die after taking enough damage). And it would be nice to be able to mute the sounds between levels, not to have to start a level and pause it for that purpose.
I'd still like to see Gear of Defense 2, put some effort into balancing and bug-fixing and a few enhancements and I'm sure it'd be real cool :)

Piercing at bosslevels isn't working. Also it seems, that the 4x damage seems not working. Level 20 and on easy & it's nearly impossible to kill the boss. Also the money is a bit too low - even if there is an update to 4x the money, you'll become by shooting the moby. 30k for this is really a pain. Until level 19, you'll have it easy by having the rifle or machinegun + 4x damage + piercing + poisoning. Overall: Nice timekiller of course, but i enjoyed other games more for the same amount of time. Should be a bit more polished & weighted.

Ditto on the weird glitch. Every once in a while, some of the dudes just start floating up out of the screen, then half a minute later my health starts going down, and the number of enemies left starts increasing exponentially. Aside from that, it's a decent game.

Yeah the glitches really pissed me off too, what happened to me was different the enemy count just increased like crazy then my health started to decrease until game over... that bugged me allot mostly because i was really getting into the game, also it was really addictive at first until that glitch happened to me.
