You have fallen into a vast underground maze. Can you find your way out, or will you end up trapped in darkness forever?

We recommend playing in a dimly lit room with your speaker or headphone volume turned up. It's best to play I Can't Escape late at night, as it is an eerie exploration experience.

Troubleshooting: This game requires flash player 11+. If you don't have flash player 11, the game will tell you, and you should download it (for free) here: http://get.adobe.com/flas hplayer/ .

If you get the error "requires 3D hardware rendering," that means it's not running on your graphics card for some reason. Try right clicking the game, clicking settings, and make sure "enable hardware acceleration" is checked in the display tab, then refresh the page. If that doesn't work, try updating your graphics card driver or your flash player version.

If you're using windows 8, cheese123 mentioned to me that he couldn't get the game to run unless he ran chrome in windows 8 mode. If you're using windows 8 and having trouble, you can try that and see if it makes a difference. Thanks a lot to cheese123!

If you are still having trouble playing the game, feel free to send me a PM!

Attempt 1- lots of random wandering, falling through hidden pitfalls until I got stuck.
Attempt 2- Time to play smart, I learned what the hidden pitfalls looked like and was easily able to navigate this treacherous labyrinth without dropping down any floors. So I wander around the starting floor for about 20 minutes when I noticed that the map changes despite taking the same route between 2 points. Another 10 or so minutes of wandering and I find out that the keys do nothing, you can find a locked door pick up a nearby key try again but the door remains locked. "I'm onto you buddy, rearranging mazes and useless keys, it's all designed to throw the player off, but I'm not gonna fall for your tricks so easily, I will complete this game". Aaaaand cue 30 minutes of wandering around finding all ladders either blocked by pitfalls or unopenable gates. I don't know if this is just difficult to complete and involves getting lucky and finding the correct ladder or if you are trying to screw people over with a game that can't be beat. If it's the former than shame on you, if it's the latter than I guess you accomplished your goal spectacularly, because determined and driven by some deranged completionist compulsion I may be, but a winner I am not.

You are correct, all ladders are blocked on the first floor. If you're going to escape, you're going to have to break through common sense and make a ladder that was once unreachable, reachable!

The navigation was annoying; the amount of space you moved was so awkward.
The game wasn't scary either. I assumed that the lower you went, the scarier it got, so I kept trying to find the pitfalls, and went down about twenty levels, and all that appeared was the occasional ghost out of the corner of my eye, and the eyes on the wall.

When you fall some floors, a darker music starts and ghosts appears, that's awesome, but you need to stick in the first floor and avoid holes.. that's VERY BORING.

I like the graphics alot, but it's lagging way too much for enjoyment (or creeping-me- out-ment) in my webkit based browser. In Firefox the game is not moving at all.
It seems to only run in full screen, which is a very bad choice. Also for dark games newgrounds has the 'dim lights' option, so there's no a real need for the full screen.

davidmaletz responds:

This is most likely caused because the game is running in software mode, and it needs to run on the graphics card to render realtime. The game now detects if you are running in software mode and gives you an error if you are. If you are running in software mode, try updating your flash player or graphics driver - that will *usually* solve the problem!

As for fullscreen, I feel strongly that it should be played in fullscreen. If you really prefer not to, however, you can hit escape to exit fullscreen mode. Clicking anywhere on the game will return to fullscreen mode, so you'll have to use the keyboard.

If the point was just being scary, I guess this is acceptable, but as a game I found it disappointing.

First of all, it seems like a luck-based game. The keys seemed to play absolutely no role in the game and I couldn't find any clues of what (not) to do. I seriously hope it's just me being dumb and not able to identify a pattern.

I also should say I understand the need for camouflaged holes, but sometimes they seemed so random they transformed a game that should be about keeping calm and being able to figure a way out into a game for feeling annoyed.

At last, the youtube video in the game description is not the least helpful. It doesn't explain how keys work neither gives us a hint of how many floors are there.

And what the hell is happening to newgrounds? The review sections are clustered with garbage.
