You have fallen into a vast underground maze. Can you find your way out, or will you end up trapped in darkness forever?

We recommend playing in a dimly lit room with your speaker or headphone volume turned up. It's best to play I Can't Escape late at night, as it is an eerie exploration experience.

Troubleshooting: This game requires flash player 11+. If you don't have flash player 11, the game will tell you, and you should download it (for free) here: .

If you get the error "requires 3D hardware rendering," that means it's not running on your graphics card for some reason. Try right clicking the game, clicking settings, and make sure "enable hardware acceleration" is checked in the display tab, then refresh the page. If that doesn't work, try updating your graphics card driver or your flash player version.

If you're using windows 8, cheese123 mentioned to me that he couldn't get the game to run unless he ran chrome in windows 8 mode. If you're using windows 8 and having trouble, you can try that and see if it makes a difference. Thanks a lot to cheese123!

If you are still having trouble playing the game, feel free to send me a PM!

Want to know if it's possible to escape? You can check out this video: .

I made it to the end! BTW I really doubt if its possible to win, since every ladder, visually trapped or not, is actually a hole! I saw multiple ladders without visual holes on the first level, but they all leaded me down (where I found ladders up which actually DID take me back). If it is possible, then please say it to me in a PM, davidmaletz. Great game, but needs improvement (like new floors, A HUD showing floor level, keys etc. and maybe even a multiplayer mode) .

davidmaletz responds:

You're probably falling through hidden pits - while I call them hidden, you actually CAN see them if you look carefully. If you can't recognize hidden pits, you wont be able to escape! Almost all ladders on the first floor are inaccessible, you're not going to be able to escape easily, but it is possible - you can see me escaping in this video: (but the video makes it seem easier than it is!). As for the improvements, a few people have suggested a HUD, but I feel like it's not necessary - you're supposed to get lost anyways! You'll have to keep track of the level number and keys yourself haha.

I have no clue what I would do with a multiplayer mode for this game, if you have some suggestions, send me a PM! Thanks for the review and the suggestions!

i like the way that the farther down you get the faster your character moves in time with the time limit to each level (add on to that guy below, i think there's a timer on each level that decreases the further you go down, or at least it's more likely for you to fall in a random pit trap the further down you are) it really makes the panicked feel i believe you were trying to go for, when you start the game, whatever, it's just a puzzle game, and you're roaming about with little to no worry, but the farther down you get the more it becomes apparent that the bottom isn't a place you want to be, you gave that feeling to the player, not just the character, and that's pretty admirable, great game, however i would make a bit of an adjustment to it, from very early on it becomes easily apparent there's no way to get back up once you fall down past the first level, that's ok near the end, but it should come in degrees, in a 1 step forward 2 steps back kind of way, if you know what i mean. currently it feels like a straight plummet when it should be a slow decent into madness

davidmaletz responds:

Thanks for the review! Your idea is a good one, and in fact, it's already in the game, although it's more a 1 step forward, 6 steps back! If you're lucky, or move carefully to avoid pits, you'll probably be able to climb a ladder or two, perhaps even get up to the first level again!

I really love it. I think it's great that this was made for January's 1GAM. From one developer to another, this is fantastic.

davidmaletz responds:

Thanks a lot! 1GAM has been great in helping me to actually finish and release games - I have so many ideas planned! Look forward to my February game! Are you participating in 1GAM as well? What was your January game?
