You have fallen into a vast underground maze. Can you find your way out, or will you end up trapped in darkness forever?

We recommend playing in a dimly lit room with your speaker or headphone volume turned up. It's best to play I Can't Escape late at night, as it is an eerie exploration experience.

Troubleshooting: This game requires flash player 11+. If you don't have flash player 11, the game will tell you, and you should download it (for free) here: .

If you get the error "requires 3D hardware rendering," that means it's not running on your graphics card for some reason. Try right clicking the game, clicking settings, and make sure "enable hardware acceleration" is checked in the display tab, then refresh the page. If that doesn't work, try updating your graphics card driver or your flash player version.

If you're using windows 8, cheese123 mentioned to me that he couldn't get the game to run unless he ran chrome in windows 8 mode. If you're using windows 8 and having trouble, you can try that and see if it makes a difference. Thanks a lot to cheese123!

If you are still having trouble playing the game, feel free to send me a PM!

You can never escape! The map changes frequently, and the ladders leading outside on the first level feel like they are programed so you'll never be able to access them -- be it a hidden pit to a lower level, or guarded by gate will never open (I might just be running out of keys by the time I get to them; would be nice to have something that helps track them)!

davidmaletz responds:

You are correct, all ladders are blocked on the first floor. If you're going to escape, you're going to have to break through common sense and make a ladder that was once unreachable, reachable (and it's not going to be as easy as using a key)! Or you can go the easier path, and see how deep you can go!

Not bad,not bad!As you venture deeper into the maze, you see less and things are more scarier.I like the idea that when you go to ladders at deeper levels you fall instead of climbing. The atmosphere was pretty scary and creepy, that's good. The end seems to represent that you have gone mad and trapped in this maze forever. Also,I like how the music changes as you go deeper.

The game looks fun but game play needs to be refined.

I don't know if it was your intention, but I think it represents a descent into madness well. I spent awhile trying to actively escape, but after that, I started actively seeking out the holes, going as deep as I could. I won't spoil what's at the bottom, but I say well done.

My only complaint is that I walked away from the game to get food, and when I came back, I was still alive and unharmed. I felt like that took all the danger factor out for me.

davidmaletz responds:

Yeah, the game can definitely be seen as a descent to madness - trying desperately to escape, yet somehow getting deeper, and even intentionally going deeper when you feel there's no other way. The fact that there even is an escape, but it's almost impossible to find make the analogy even better!

As for leaving the game and nothing happening, I've had the opposite response too! They left the game to go to the bathroom, and ended on a different level and were upset! Most of the time, when you fall, it is by your own actions (which again follows the madness analogy), so you wont often fall without moving. But, sometimes, in rare instances, you will fall even without any input at all!
