[WALKTHROUGH]
There is now a walkthrough available, courtesy of the fine writers over at JayIsGames. If you get stuck somewhere, check it out! It actually details the entire game for all of you completionists out there.

[02.04.2013 PERFORMANCE UPDATE]
- Changed BG's from vector to bitmaps, increasing the game's performance dramatically. Most players should be able to play on HIGH quality now :D
- Tweaks to the Ogre's attack patterns have been added

[01.30.2013 UPDATE]
- Officially, officially fixed the Death/Restart Menu glitch
- Added a drop shadow effect to the mute button and Ogre battle restart button

[SORTA-MAJOR UPDATE]
- New red click-indication arrows have been added to let players know where and when to click on the different action scenes
- Hint arrows added to the intro of the Ogre fight scene
- Music mute on/off toggle has been added

[UPDATE]
- Restart/Death Menu would sometimes still be visible after restarting already; This bug has been remedied.

[UPDATE]
- The Ogre's attacks can now be anticipated a bit better in this version... however, he's now much harder to beat. It takes 6 successful attacks to kill the Ogre.

[THE 4TH ARROW -- BANDIT ELF ARCHER SCENE]
Ok, so everyone seems to keep missing the 4th arrow. That's done intentionally. The 4th arrow is much faster and at a slightly lower location than the first 3 arrows. After you block the 4th arrow, quickly click on the bandit elf to choose his death.

[UPDATE: FIXES]
- Boss now has less life and should be less "buggy," but also starts attacking more quickly
- There is now a "restart" button on the Boss stage, just in case of any weird, game-stopping bug occurance. The restart button makes elfmin explode, then brings up the restart menu... pretty entertaining just killing yourself actually lol
- The knife icon now responds to when you've thrown it at the bandit elf

[RECOMMENDED SETTINGS]
I recommend that people play this game on the 'Medium' (unless you're sure your computer can handle it -- I'd rather everyone fully appreciate the artwork on the High setting, honestly) setting, due to the highly detailed artwork/animations creating lag when the game is played online. You can find the Quality settings in the top left-hand side of the game.

[GAME BACKSTORY]
You are Edwin. A normal kid, with a normal life. One day, you're playing video games with your girlfriend and all's good. You're about to beat your favorite game of all time, "The Legend of Hooligan," when suddenly, Lord Gorn (the warlock within the game) reaches into the reality realm and nabs your girlfriend! Oh my, lord, jesus, f**k! ...Panicking, you stupidly throw a wild punch and miss, leaving Lord Gorn with a perfect opportunity to smash your face in. Before you know it, you're laying unconscious, on the floor of your room.
[END OF GAME BACKSTORY INTRO]

Greetings Newgrounders!

Behold! I bring you.... Elf Story! An epic (yet short) journey into a game realm, heavily inspired by the legend of zelda series.

Elf Story is a point-n-click adventure that's heavy in art/animation. A very simple game to get into, and one that almost everyone can appreciate, I would think.

You'll assume the role of Edwin, who later becomes Elfmin, on a 10-scene quest to try and find your girlfriend while battling off vicious enemies...

Enjoy the beautifully animated kills and death sequences as you journey through the painstakingly detailed backgrounds and scenes. Seriously... too much damn work was put into the art and animations... So, please, enjoy the game.

Also, if you notice any bugs at all, please PM me. Thanks!

[OUTRO]
You've learned new skills and earned new weapons. You've unlocked achievements and killed many a foe. Though you've reached the end of this chapter, your journey is not over... You must finish what you started.

OHEMGEE THERE'S NO WAI TO KNOW HOW TO PLAY AND I'M TOO LAZY TO READ WHAT THE SCREEN OBVIOUSLY POINTS OUT!!
That's what i WOULD say, but then again, I'm literate. So, that being said, i think you did a fine job. The setting is quirky, and after the whole chest-and-key thing i honestly thought I'd be bored. But then after the first 2 kills you got me completely hooked. The only bitch was the actual boss, killed me like 9 times before i figured out the trick to it ^^ Now I'm off to try and get every single. Possible. Kill. Shweet game dude! :D
Oh, P.S.: The movement from scene to scene COULD be sped up, like people said, if there are no more enemies ready to jump at you, and I wish you'd pointed out that even though the first time you dodge something, you're supposed to click the BIG RED ARROW, the second time you're actually supposed to click the SWORD, even though the arrow still shows up. That's my 2 cents.

I think this game has potential to be really good, but it has a long way to go.
Dude, people aren't rating your game poorly just because of the arrows (which was seriously annoying). You have to work on the controls of this game. Because the controls are awkward, the game is slower than it needs to be, e.i., having to double click everything? Of all the point-and-click adventure games, I've never had to do this. Edwin can't figure out somethings for himself? And waiting for him to walk from point a to point b? UGH. Walk faster dude!
And that part with the flying arrows, geez. The margin of error is so small. I'm click spamming like crazy and get killed by the 3rd or 4th arrow constantly (and I'm saying this on my 2nd play through).
The 'final boss': How the bloody hell do you 'prepare for battle' when you have no idea what to do? I got lucky and figured out you had to either click his head or his arm. There's nothing indicating what to do.
Ultimately, the controls and the in-story game need work. I'm not saying the game needs to spell out every little thing but a good game gives players enough hints to know what to do next. Having to die over and over is frustrating. I get that dying is a big draw to your game, hence the death tag but dude, most people don't have that time or attention span to stay and play a game where they constantly die.
But with that, I liked the death scenes though.

Despite the awe I felt at the kick-ass action, I found this game to be more annoying than fun. The animation was very well done, and the action scenes were pretty badass. The point-and-click theme didn't feel quite right though, especially since some of the clicking would be imprecise; the addition of secrets was nice, though, and the choices you could make were pretty fun.

I didn't like the looping action music, though, since it made traveling (even though I didn't have to go very far at all) seem dull, and it made the epic feeling of the music dissolve.

My biggest complaint, though, is what feels like the inevitability of dying and the change in (point-and-click) gameplay. When I fought the goblin archer, the game told me to click on him and choose a weapon to kill him with. Just a small thing, but it would have been better to just have the weapon ready to strike instead of having to choose my weapon right at that moment. In the next action scene, where I fight the first bandit, I was coached by that first encounter to just click on enemies; however, in this event, I had to click on the arrows to dodge, and my lack of knowledge on that got me killed and made me feel a little like an idiot. Past that was the second bandit, and, with the dagger being tossed and an arrow pointing at it, I used what I had learned from the previous fight to click on the arrow; instead, I was supposed to click on the dagger, once again leading me to my death.

Difficult games aren't bad, and even games where it seems like I need superhuman reactions, like Ghouls and Ghosts or Dark Souls, can, in my opinion, be fair and fun; however, this game not only needs me to react quickly, but also seems to change the rules of fighting, forcing me to die before I learned that I had to click on myself to block instead of trying to click on the approaching guardsman in a futile attempt to kill him with my new, shiny sword. This was both annoying and humiliating, as I'd had to watch myself die 5 times to the fourth arrow that seems to shoot more quickly than all the other three for some unknown reason. Learning to play this game is not simply difficult; it's plain frustrating.

Again, I enjoyed the animation, as well as the music, though I wished it could have been used a bit sparingly (silence can provide as much of an atmosphere as music). The most important thing, however, is the gameplay, which I found flawed and simply unfair. If a sequel, or something similar to one, to this game were made, I would play it so long as it's gameplay and music placement were polished and perfected.
