I rarely log into NG anymore.

Sometimes, something catches my I. A game or movie so good that it motivates my lazy ass to log in and give it the praise due.

That is not the case here.

When I saw "Doctor Who: The Game" I was immediately interested. I'm not sure what I was hoping for, but it wasn't this. This is... a tacky and shameless excuse to plug into social media. It's a bad facebook game that's being promoted by newgrounds.

I realize that NG has started promoting a lot of pretty stupid MMOs (and probably good ones too, I don't know). But this is... doubly insulting both to the site and the series, of both of which I am a fan.

So what's wrong with the game? Primarily, it's not a game. It's a broken game, at best. It loads slowly, and I had issues even starting it at all. I'm sure on a faster computer/better internet it'd have run more smoothly (hopefully) but you can't just assume that everyone on the internet has a gaming computer. Mine isn't high-end but it isn't slow.

So: My partial and biased anaylsis?

Playability: 2/10 - The game itself started, and I could make a character, and try to go on quests, but the process was slow, painful, and full of errors. At best this can be written off as unpolished. What is worse is the game itself is nothing special, wrapped up in social media.

Graphics: 7/10 - Outside of the interface issues, the game looks decent. Even nice. Not mind blowing. The cartoon-y characters are... okay, I guess. It just looks like a professionally made facebook game. And while that isn't glaringly bad, it also isn't at all eye-catching or creative.

Sound: 7/10: Again, outside of problems with the game playing sounds at the wrong times because it wouldn't load properly, the sounds are ripped directly from Dr. Who. Which is good, because the game is associated with the show, I assume. On the other hand... the sounds of the show usually magic me feel nostalgic. It's possible that the sheer number of bugs and frustrations drowned it out, but overall, it did nothing for me.

Creativity: 5/10 - I'll give you that the idea of running amock in the Dr. Who Universe sounds pretty awesome. Even the idea of making a Dr. Who game is pretty awesome. The implementation, unfortunately, with soulless and shallow.

Overall Presentation: -5/10 - Some people don't understand games. It seems hard to miss, but I think they see them as an opportunity to make money or promote their product or idea. And while it's okay to do that in a game that is good (fun forgives all sins), this isn't a game. It's not fun. It's not meant to be fun. I assume it's meant to be yet another addicting social media game. In fact, I can't see it being anything else.

In conclusion: I'm pretty sure those numbers don't add up to 0, but that's what I'm giving this game. And you should too. Why? Because it'll show NG that we don't want crappy facebook games. Unless you do want that kind of thing. Then vote whatever you want.

Post Script: What saddens me most is the fact that this... was a golden opportunity, a partnership between two awesome providers of entertainment, and they both failed miserably. I've gotten less and less interested in NG as the quality of the games tends to fall, and as for Dr. Who I grow less and less content with their shameless money grabbing, even if I do enjoy the series.

Anyway, that's my opinion. Feel free to disagree. That's why it's the internet.

And seriously, NG and Dr. Who (via BBC): I am disappoint, son.

The art and everything is ok... but when you start charging real money for "premium content", I don't know man... I mean.. it's just a flash game, there's a lot more stuff I could be spending my money on.

After remaining hopeful and trying my hardest to overlook some of the more determinant flaws, it can't be ignored that this game, when played singularly, is flat-out broken. It doesn't take long to reach a point when the "assistants" that tag along with you become totally useless. And when there's two or more people that you need to use your "wit" on and you get stuck in an unhuman combo on one as the other epicly fails at the other, you have no time to undo the damage the NPC has done.

The rest of the game is social-site nonsense, which I refuse to access since it quite simply does not improve the quality of a game, despite how often developers appear to THINK it does.

I love doctor who. the fact that someone made a game this poor based on something so great disappoints me.
