(This game is a tribute to Gunstar Heroes and all the classics that my favourite game company Treasure made. It's also got little shout outs to over games as well.)
Yes, I know stuff is missing and some stuff could be done better, but it's just a little flash project I wanted to really do for myself. It's a mix between, Gunstar, Megaman and Contra.)

Well, it's finally done. I know it's a bit late but I ran into some issues like you do. Anyway it's all there, four big levels, lots of bosses and some retro action sprinkled on top.
It's pretty difficult but there is unlimited continues to counter balance that aspect. I've added medals and extras to unlock for you peeps who enjoy that sort of thing.
It's a big, CPU heavy game, so if you're experiencing lag, you can download the standalone offline exe for free. (You could also resize the game by 2x to it's native 320x224 resolution.)

Anyway, I hope you like it, it took a while to make and I have put a lot of effort into this, (about four months worth really.) So yeah, hope you enjoy.
Nice game BUT the controls are a joke if you ask me. Why not use space for jumping and left mouse button for fire???
I really liked this game, and not being able to shoot diagonally added more of a challenge to the game.
I agree with everything Vorpike said, but I went just a tad father in the game than he did. In addition to his review, here are a couple things you could also improve on:
1. It would be nice to be able to shoot diagonally up and down
2. I got an upgrade that seemed to be some kind of flamethrower(maybe??) but the game would not let me move while shooting it, defeating the purpose of the run aspect of a "run and gun"
3. Being on newgrounds, I think a bit of character customization would be pretty neat(more my opinion than anything else)
While the graphics and programming are nice, there are some other factors you haven't considered (in a run n' gun). It's supposed to be easier to hit your enemies than your enemies hitting you, here, the enemies have too much hp and they're weapons have more range/harder to dodge. Like the thing that sprays grenades everywhere on a raised platform, it's annoying to jump up and down to trade 1 hit for 2 hits on yourself. Same goes for the main, flying enemies, I can't hit them from the ground very well. Of course, the other obvious problem is the lag, thank you for thinking about the standalone, surprising, it lags a lot but is very not detailed, like the map and platforms are very simple and sparse...guess it's all in the old school art. I also find the power-ups pointless...I don't see a difference. I gave up when it came to the moving platform while breaking boxes part, the enemies are even harder to hit and the box have way too much health, I always fall off and take a lot of damage before I break the box, but by then, the moving platform is long gone and all I could do is fall until I die.
Nice graphics and music but this is nothing even vaguely original and the lack of multi-directional shooting really kills it.
